Whilst the TEFAF Art Fair is coming to its end, the Museum aan het Vrijthof features the world premiere of ‘ A passion for TASCHEN’.
The exhibition is oriented around the library of one of the world’s greatest TASCHEN collectors. Through his eyes we view the boldness, vision and variety of TASCHEN’s program across art, photography, sports, history, nature, society, and eroticism. Presenting Art and Collector’s editions, original photographs, bestsellers and objects from the TASCHEN archive the visitor experiences the thematic diversity and artistic quality of the publishing house, as well as their roster of leading creative collaborators, including Helmut Newton, Sebastião Salgado and Annie Leibovitz.
The exhibition also features a number of tailor-made bookstands, considered part of a Gesamtkunstwerk in TASCHEN’s Art and Collector’s Editions and conceived by top designers such as Philippe Starck and Marc Newson. An XXX room (adult content) will showcase some of TASCHEN’s more explicit titles, regarded as controversial by some, but an integral part of the editorial list. The exhibition ends with a “please touch room” where visitors can browse the books themselves.
